Every single personal computer or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program which interacts with the computer hardware, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, along with any applications that are currently installed on your system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a web server, any application runs within the parameters defined by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This is valid for both standard website scripts and server-side software like a media server. In case a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, named guest OS and host OS, so that you'll be able to set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We provide as many as 3 different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs on the market and we offer all 3 instead of just 1 because we realize that you may want to set up some software that has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it'll run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a vast support community behind it and there're various software programs you may install on the server. Your OS choice will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS if you wish to use one and for this reason we offer several Control Panels as well. In case you decide that you need some other OS, our tech support can quickly wipe the current one and set up the one that you need. In addition, we offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on your server as different applications may have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and enjoy a reliable and safe web hosting service. Based on your choice, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you want to run. We can also update your OS regularly to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
